It has often been said that information is the lifeblood
of any company. Yet extracting relevant information from across
the organisation seems to be as difficult and complex as ever,
despite the growing availability of data warehousing and business
intelligence tools.
For years, companies have been introducing financial, transactional
and production applications that provide a wealth of data;
but analysing this data and turning it into meaningful information
has been akin to searching for the Holy Grail. Many companies
have gone through a number of iterations of management information
systems and have ended up with a mish-mash of different data
warehouses and analysis tools.
