There is no doubt that Excel 2007 will be very successful in its own right. Yet, in terms of integrating BI capabilities, it remains to be seen whether the functionality delivered will be compelling enough to compete not just with BI vendors who already have Office connectors, but those who are partnering with Microsoft on Office integration or those, like Actuate, who have a reputation for enterprise-level Excel integration.

More importantly, there is a danger in assuming that MS Office is, and will remain, the only office productivity suite and potential BI client available.
