When it comes to internet-sourced email, and the increasing
percentage that is now spam, how email is delivered into the
organisation has become a form of bandwidth management in
itself. It is not unusual to see 80% of a company’s inbound
internet bandwidth taken up with spam, so even if an anti-spam
device is used in front of the company’s mail servers, the
email still has to arrive on the device before it can block
it from the server.
In such cases the best answer is to outsource the mail filtering
to another company so that unwanted messages never get to
your company’s internet pipe.
