The majority of BPM solutions have evolved little from the
simple routing engines that came into existence in the late
1980s and early 90s: the primary task being to route a work
item or task from one node in a process to another, depending
on some deadline, decision point or simple interpretation
of a business rule.
So despite the marketing hype, the explosion in interest,
and the money that’s being poured into the products, the resulting
innovation is lamentable.
