Workflow, ECM & Document Management

Conspectus September 2006 - Summary

Two major trends are driving the current high levels of interest in workflow, enterprise content management (ECM) and document management tools.

The first is the web. The huge shift in business and personal life towards working online has meant a similar move towards keeping information electronically. With so much information available, tools that can control that content are vital.

The second trend is regulatory compliance. The need to track processes, business transactions, trades and agreements likewise falls into the lap of workflow and ECM software suppliers.

This issue of Conspectus looks at different aspects of this transformation, ranging from a review of why blogs, wikis and RSS are relevant to enterprise content management by Ether Solutions’ David Martin (Content Management), through to Finbarr Joy’s test of whether open source workflow products are ready for the corporate market (Open Source).
