Twenty years after the first electronic document image processing
systems appeared, the management of information in most organisations
remains very patchy. Around the islands of good practice are
murky backwaters where collections of ‘My Documents’ fill
filing cabinets and C, D and E drives.
But organisations are waking up to the fact that this fragmented
approach to corporate information – their second major asset
– is no longer sustainable, and is exposing the organisation
to unacceptable risks at both an operational and corporate
level.
