The above file preparation and post-scanning indexing steps
are consolidated into a single step. And while this single
step may be longer than just preparation, it is shorter than
the old two steps. It also reduces errors and allows for the
full set of document indexing criteria to be applied to the
backfile.
This approach requires that the scanning facility (either
inhouse or that used by the external scanning vendor) can
process documents in this way. This is not a major issue as
most document conversion packages have the capability to process
document separator pages containing patch codes or barcodes.
