The concept of corporate knowledge has long been recognised
and there have been tremendous efforts in some large organisations
to capture this knowledge through a wide range of techniques.
These efforts have used both formal methods and an array of
software in an effort to record the information that is held
in the minds of individuals who operate day-to-day in the
businesses of the organisation.
It is clearly the case that these individuals are the people
who operate the processes, both formal and informal, that
deliver the activities. Any change in the people operating
a process can therefore make reliance on documentation critical.
