The website www. sourceforge.net currently has over 100,000 open source projects registered, enabling the project teams involved to run the code and documentation. Table 1 below, is a snapshot of some of these projects/products in key software categories. It is not an exhaustive list or a recommendation of any product.

Many companies will have processes in place which enable them to assess, review and select products for use within the organisation. These are designed to reduce the risk to the company. You must subject the use of open source software to the same process as proprietary products.
