Q: WHAT BUSINESS REASONS LED YOU TO ADOPT
NEW PROJECT MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE?
A: About a year ago, we were beginning a major project to
restructure our core IT systems, and there were lots of other
projects going on. At the time within IT, we had a very convoluted
system of resource management using spreadsheets. These specified
how many days each person was spending on each project, but
it was incredibly difficult if you wanted to do some modelling
– to see what happens if you drop in another project.
We recognised that our portfolio of projects did not lend
itself to being managed by spreadsheets and that we needed
a new tool to support us.
It all stems from the fact that IT resources are scarce –
and you can’t just keep trying to move the business forward
with new development projects, without considering the prioritisation
of each project.
