The original BSC focuses on four distinct perspectives: financial,
customer, internal business processes, and learning and growth.
For an organisation focusing on shareholder value, EP would
be the overriding financial metric; the BSC works by identifying
measures in the remaining three aspects and linking them to
EP by identifying a series of causes and effects between the
measures that help maximise the present value of future EPs.
This process is known as strategy mapping.
