Founded in 1952, G’s Marketing Ltd
has expanded to become a leading UK and European grower
in the fast-growing fresh produce market with an annual
turnover of £190 million. The company is headquartered
near Ely in Cambridgeshire. It has five sites in the
UK and further sites in Spain, Ireland, Holland and
Belgium.
G’s Marketing provides fresh salads
and vegetables to all sectors of the food business,
including supermarkets, independent retailers, food
service and catering and food manufacturing organisations.
It combines specialist growing expertise with advanced
preparation facilities for ready-to-eat produce and
marketing expertise based on consumer market research.
G’s is currently working with Tesco
to launch a new organic box of 10 items of high-quality
salads, vegetables and fruit, ordered online through
Tesco.com and delivered direct to the customer (see
pictures). An initial trial is running in the Croydon
and south east London area, but if successful the scheme
will be available nationally. Each box contains a newsletter
with information about the produce, the people who grow
it and a range of recipe ideas, with more information
on a dedicated website, www.fenlandorganics. co.uk.
In terms of new technology direction,
G’s Marketing faces increasingly stringent requirements
from its customers which differ from customer to customer.
To help address them, G’s Marketing is investing in
new IT infrastructure to support its business processes,
particularly its quality assurance process.

Q: HOW WERE THE USERS PREPARED FOR THE NEW SYSTEM?
A: A member of the QA team worked with us throughout the
project, so he was able to train his colleagues. Training
had to be done on the job in the warehouse.
The QA team has now fully taken the solution on board and
it is working well. However, it does rely on QA staff thinking
about what they are doing. The solution is an aid to the process,
not a replacement for personnel.
