In IT, server virtualisation involves using software to allow
physical servers to be encapsulated into a virtual machine.
This virtual machine is unaware that it is not running directly
on physical hardware.
Virtualisation has been in existence for some time, with
the likes of the IBM VM mainframe operating system and the
LPAR feature on the iSeries (AS/400), pSeries (AIX) and zSeries
(mainframe) systems.
