The management of paper-based information can present many
problems. Organisations who centre their processes around
a physical item of paper – such as a customer invoice, contract
or letter – take on a significant and unnecessary burden in
duplicating, storing and retrieving multiple copies of that
document.
When this works well, the organisation feels secure in the
knowledge that the document is available and stored securely
in a physical location, usually offsite or in a central filing
area. But even with the best-run physical filing system, inefficiencies
are inherent.
