But new technology and standards around using RFID as a shortrange wireless technology may provide significant business improvements in a wider range of vertical markets.

There is a now a number of different short-range wireless technologies, such as:

• Near Field Communications (NFC), including the ISO/IEC 14443, MIFARE and FeliCa standards.
• Ultra Wide Band (UWB) – IEEE 802.15.3 IEEE 802.15.3a.
• Zigbee – IEEE 802.15.4.
• Bluetooth.
