Tony Emmerton: private sector can avoid reinventing the wheel
There is a tendency to feel that while the public sector
has much to gain by adopting the kinds of commercial approach
taken in the private sector, there is little wisdom government
agencies can offer in return. However, when it comes to outsourcing,
it is the public sector which has pioneered best-practice
concepts.
A recent survey by Kable Research has highlighted a massive
increase in public sector outsourcing, with IT contracts driving
the increase in value to the extent that by 2005-06, the value
of all UK public sector IT and business outsourcing is expected
to reach £46.5 billion. This represents impressive growth
of 228% in the market.
