In Titterington’s view, there are two main ways information
can leak out. One is through lack of control over who can
access and modify data. The other occurs when unauthorised
people can use the systems, perhaps while masquerading as
a legitimate user.
“The second problem is the easier one to tackle, by providing
better user authentication and automatically timing out unattended
terminals. Automated user provisioning can also be the best
way to tighten up access permissions to specific data and
processes,” Titterington said.
