Outsourcing

Conspectus October 2003 - Summary

Outsourcing has been the biggest IT growth area in recent years as it offers companies an opportunity to nail down their hardware, software and service costs.

Our market research shows this popularity remains, though there are signs that outsourcing deals are getting smaller in value and buyers are showing more willingness to switch suppliers if the service doesn’t live up to expectations. This market maturity can only be a good thing.

But one risk with outsourcing is your IT becomes locked into the state it was in when you first took out the contract – no development, no innovation. This is a problem that Thomas Cook has solved in its co-sourcing contract with Accenture.

Other Management Briefing articles in this issue cover the growth of offshore outsourcing and why buying outsource services is not just the preserve of major firms.
