Conspectus November 2003 - Summary

It has become an accepted fact that as IT budgets remain under pressure, many organisations are putting their money into integrating the systems they already have rather than investing in new ones.

This has made the deeply technical area of integration technology suddenly almost sexy. That attractiveness has been enhanced by the continued focus on web services standards, as the debate rages over how much of a panacea to integration problems they offer.

Our market research, carried out among UK-based IT user organisations, finds many companies are investing in integration technology with some success. The problem is that the number of systems to integrate, and the choice of integration technologies, is bewildering – and Tom Welsh takes a cold hard look at the role that web services could play here.
