Understanding what it means to be a real-time enterprise (RTE) has never been easy. Definitions have not always recognised the business reality and enterprises have found that industry-specific issues impact their state of readiness to adopt technologies that help them progress in their efforts to better serve customers and improve profitability.

Industry analyst Gartner has come up with an RTE definition that is readily understood, though it took Gartner three months and the combined effort of 20 analysts to distil its thoughts!
