Storage and IT infrastructure management has jumped to
the top of corporate priorities in recent years, as the impact
of web-based data sharing, the increase in emailing, the growing
use of digital images and the greater importance of corporate
data generally has had its effect.
A good 10% of the organisations we surveyed
for this issue have seen their storage requirements more
than double in the last year alone. That is a startling statistic
and a call for action even in these times of IT spending constraints.
There are a number of technological solutions. Networked
rather than single-server storage is more flexible – and Cliff
Leach weighs up the relative merits
of SAN and NAS networked storage in his article.
