As with any storage management development, protecting data from disaster is absolutely critical in the HSM system.
With other storage systems, backup software will copy data to another storage device to ensure protection. Eventually, rarely accessed files can be automatically deleted from the server by using an archiving function. Once that happens, users cannot access these files without an administrator restoring them first.
