But switching to an outsourcing arrangement is not necessarily as simple as it may seem at first glance. Damji makes the point that many specialist storage outsourcing operators are relatively new to the market, and it has proved difficult for start-up companies within this sector to gain the trust of end users.
“Storage is seen, quite rightly, as something that organisations cannot simply outsource to any company. Therefore customers are more likely to entrust outsourcing to companies that they feel are not likely to go out of business in a few years, which translates as companies they have heard of,” Damji maintains.
