This rule also holds true for some of the more specialist applications which companies are now installing as a complement to their ERP systems. One such is advanced planning systems (APS) software, which focuses on the decision-making side of supply chain requirements.

“Since all APSs are built on sophisticated models and algorithms, the most important question is not ‘What is the best APS in the world?’, but ‘Are you clear about how you want to make your planning work and can your people adapt to the new APS?’. We have seen too many organisations stuck in their APS project because they have over-complicated the tool and simply cannot run it,” Coldrick said.
