David Martin: BPM should enable change to be implemented more rapidly

Martin also views the role of portals as a fairly narrow one: “Portal technology is most useful when there is a requirement for BPM systems to be accessed from outside an organisation. In such circumstances, the browser-based portal can deliver extra functionality. Within organisations, the Windows desktop delivered through Terminal Server or Citrix already provides portal functionality for BPM so specialist software is not required.”

And Pike actively cautions against seeing portals as the solution to an organisation’s integration problems, an approach which risks giving the technology a much wider remit than it can fulfil successfully.
