IT users find workflow, content and business process management software appealing but by no means straightforward to implement. Pat Sweet reports on our latest research.

Close to half (44%) of the respondents have operational document management systems, with another 6% at the implementation stage and 8% trialling pilots. Slightly fewer (38%) have content management systems already in place, with 8% handling implementations and 10% running pilots. A third (32%) have installed workflow applications, and 8% are at the implementation stage for this technology, with 6% just trying it out.

Overall, many (26%) of these applications have been put in place within the past two years, although a small proportion (4%) are more than a decade old.
