Supply Chain Management Systems (June 2002) Summary
The web remains a dominant force in supply chain management system installations, as our research makes clear: its promise to deliver simple information sharing among suppliers, partners and customers has led many organisations to introduce internet technology into their supply chain.
The downside of this improved collaboration is that it has brought a whole new level of complexity. The result is that organisations now have less a supply chain, more a supply ‘web’ or a constantly changing network of multiple supply chains.
The different issues around moving in this direction are looked at in management briefing articles from The Logistics Business, PA and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Elsewhere, we cover the HR implications of making supply chain technology work, and the need to integrate sales, marketing and logistics functions.
