Enterprise Integration Technology (July 2002) Summary

Enterprise integration technology is a great way to squeeze more juice out of an organisation’s existing IT investment, especially at a time when IT budgets are being drawn in.

For example, organisations can use integration software to link their legacy ERP and best of breed systems to newer customer relationship management (CRM) and e-commerce systems, in order to streamline their internal processes and improve supply chain collaboration with partners and customers.

The main difficulty is simply the complexity of integration technology and the confusion of methods to adopt. That may be why our survey finds that only 10% of users surveyed are ‘totally confident’ that any integration systems deployed will meet their corporate standards.

One recently hyped IT integration methodology is to adopt web services, and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young’s Peter Truman assesses what benefits web services are going to bring.
