HR professionals are using technology to battle their way through the economic downturn, according to our latest survey. Pat Sweet reports.

Backs to the wall - Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3

  SURVEY STATISTICS

For this survey, we conducted telephone interviews with 50 companies drawn from a wide range of backgrounds. One in five (20%) of our sample is from the public sector, while 16% come from manufacturing industry and 10% from the financial services sector.

The organisations we spoke to varied in size. Roughly a third (30%) have a turnover in the £5 million to £100 million range, while a quarter (26%) have turnovers of between £150 million and £1 billion, and 16% have a turnover in excess of £5 billion.

A year ago, all the talk in HR circles was of the ‘war for talent’, as companies competed to attract and retain the best people. Now, however, rapidly changing economic conditions mean many companies are facing a battle for survival.

HR management systems are becoming the frontline weapons in a new fight to ensure that organisations are working as effectively and efficiently as possible.
