Data Warehousing & Business Intelligence Software (February 2002) Summary
These are interesting times in the data warehousing and business intelligence software arena.
On the positive side, Mike Ferguson of DataBase Associates – one of the UK’s leading commentators in this market – points to the emergence of the new data warehousing technology that he describes as the most exciting he has seen in his career: his article on page 18 outlines the competitive advantage this technology can bring.
Such technology development goes some way to explaining the growth in data warehousing and BI software investment identified in our regular research article.
But while the number and scale of warehousing projects is growing, so too are the costs – and users are worried about their spending racing out of control.
A number of this issue’s management briefing articles, from the likes of Accenture, SchlumbergerSema and others, focus on extracting full business benefit from this hefty IT investment.
