  SURVEY STATISTICS

We spoke to 50 companies who are either currently involved in data warehousing and business intelligence projects, or who have recently completed such a project.

The majority (40%) have turnovers ranging from £150 million to £1 billion, while 12% have turnovers of between £1 billion and £5 billion, and a further 10% have turnovers in excess of £5 billion.

The views of smaller enterprises are also represented, since 16% of our sample have a turnover of between £10 million and £50 million.

The companies come from a wide range of industry backgrounds. Close to a quarter (22%) are from banking & finance while 14% are in manufacturing and 12% in the retail business.

Data warehousing and business intelligence solutions are gaining ground across UK enterprises, with increasing numbers of implementations spanning whole organisations rather than just single departments.

But while companies can point to the very real benefits to be gained by doing this, they admit to finding it hard to keep costs under control.
