 PROFILE

Company: Ilford Imaging Group.

Interviewee: Ian Parsonage.

Job Title: Group IT Director.

The Subject: Ilford has achieved substantial cost savings by introducing a single, global manufacturing ERP system.

PERSONAL FILE

NAME: Ian Parsonage.

BACKGROUND: Has worked at Ilford for nearly 25 years, initially in R&D, moving through quality control, technical production, logistics and supply chain management into Information Systems in 1997.

Q: WHY WAS YOUR COMPANY LOOKING TO CHANGE ITS MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS?

A: Ilford’s tradition, going back 120 years, is very firmly in the photographic market, but that is now dying. It’s being replaced by digital technology, which has produced a whole new customer base, a new way to market and a different cost structure for our products.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Ilford had become a very country-based organisation, so that in each country where we had facilities, there was a separate IT group plus all the skills necessary to maintain and develop applications.
