• Costs. In order to improve key production metrics such as scrap, re-work, throughput, yield, etc, the KPIs should be calculated automatically and prominently displayed in real time.

• Production information. Increasingly, the product itself may be worthless without the associated information about its manufacture. Alternatively, the company may need to store production information to support invoicing or to provide the capability to investigate and refute a subsequent customer query. In some cases, knowing the supplier has such information is enough to prevent the query from being raised!
