Organisations are naturally concerned about the security of their IT systems. Typically, they will have deployed locked-down operating systems, securely configured internet connections, internal firewalls and routers – and taken many proactive steps, such as implementing a secure ‘DMZ’ around servers.
All of these security systems and practices are put in place, of course, to ensure the organisation’s key applications are encapsulated in a warm secure housing. Unfortunately, such a maximum-security profile cannot always be achieved unless the upfront application design itself takes security into account.
