SURVEY STATISTICS
We spoke to a wide range of organisations from different industries about their current and future software development and integration plans.
Nearly a quarter (24%) came from the financial services area, while 14% were public sector bodies, and 10% were in the retail sector.
Our survey focuses on those larger organisations who are tackling some major IT projects.
Two-thirds of the companies contacted have turnovers of over £150 million and a quarter (26%) have a turnover of more than £5 billion. The majority (82%) employ more than 50 IT staff, and two-thirds (66%) have over 100 IT employees.

Companies are pushing ahead with software development projects, while integration work is assuming an ever greater importance. The key aim in this for most organisations is to facilitate the kind of business process re-engineering which e-business demands, and to improve the flow of vital management information around the enterprise. These are the broad conclusions of this year’s Conspectus survey of software development and integration issues.
When we last looked at this area, in November 2000, there were hints this is how things would develop – but the scale and pace of the activity has increased markedly over the past 12 months.
