ingredient manufacturer Albemarle is using an e-commerce system to open up its legacy SAP data to customers. |

|
The 127-year-old Albemarle Corporation is a global supplier of complex chemicals – such as ibuprofen, flame retardants and biocides – which it markets to the likes of Procter & Gamble, ExxonMobil and BP Amoco. Albemarle’s customers are the world’s heavyweights and quite often the sun never sets on their business: a 24x7 environment is the norm. In the new ‘e’ economy, Albemarle has to meet these companies’ demands for timely and accurate product ordering, order status and delivery data. It also wanted to find a better way of using the business information locked away in its SAP back-office systems. In particular, Albemarle sought to implement new e-commerce and analytic applications via the web that would utilise its SAP data to streamline its entire supply chain operations – while at the same time helping solidify the relationships with its key customers, distributors and suppliers.
