INDUSTRY LEADERS across the board have been looking at how to optimise planning and scheduling their organisations: some have already squeezed the last few pounds from their internal operations and even their existing supply chains. In a parallel trend, the advent of the internet has empowered consumers as never before – fuelling their expectations for instant end-to-end solutions. These savvy internet users desert companies at the click of a mouse if dissatisfied. Competitive edge in this climate will go to the organisations who learn to build non-linear value webs and collaborate with former enemies – if that’s what successful customer relationship management demands. Three waves We are just beyond the mid-point of a global, cyber-based revolution, which will involve three waves of attack before it reaches equilibrium. A summary is shown in Table 1.
