HR shall go to the ball


The internet is promising to allow the HR department to move to the IT centre stage. Pat Sweet reports on our latest user survey.

FOR MANY YEARS now, HR has been viewed as the Cinderella department – the one fated to miss out on all the action when it comes to new technology. While other operational systems have attracted a lot of investment, HR has been kept in the background.

But with the internet playing Fairy Godmother, HR applications are now finally starting to grab a little of the limelight.

As this year’s Conspectus survey of users of HR systems shows, companies remain fairly ambivalent about how useful such software is.

While half of our sample (50%) felt that their current IT systems met or exceeded their requirements, 48% stated that they did not.

Moreover, almost three-quarters (74%) indicated that they had plans to enhance or upgrade their HR support systems, suggesting that there is definitely room for improvement.
