Software AG claims to be Europe’s largest systems software company. Its background lies in data management, data throughput and application integration for large corporate clients running mission-critical systems: the company sees its future in utilising its core competencies, and providing software infrastructures and XML-based e-business solutions for the burgeoning B2C and B2B market sectors.

Software AG has two core markets in the UK. The first is managing data for large enterprises, which is where the company is moving with XML; the second is enterprise application integration (EAI).

Software AG says it recognised early on that XML was an upcoming key technology. Within the XML area, its Tamino information server was founded on the skills used to create Adabas, and makes use of the EntireX technology, and derivatives of EntireX. Tamino is designed to solve problems connected with the storage, management and distribution of XML data.

The Tamino Platform presents the Tamino components in a way that is designed to make the products easy to understand. It also presents new tools – developed both by Software AG and third-party suppliers – for developing XML-based applications.
