latest survey finds e-business heavily entrenched among UK companies - but
the key aim of achieving a single view of the customer remains elusive.

MORE THAN ONE industry pundit has been heard to forecast that there will soon be no need for the 'e' in e-business to be spelt out, because conducting business operations via the web, both internally and externally, will become the rule, rather than the exception. This issue's Conspectus survey shows that, while there is some way to go before all commercial activity moves online, organisations from a wide variety of sectors are taking the plunge, although with mixed success. Every company in our sample now has a corporate website, indicating that an internet presence is considered an essential prerequisite for doing business. And the majority (60%) have been able to integrate, or at least partly integrate, their website with their core business applications. Perhaps not surprisingly, given the convenience it offers, e-mail emerges as the one application which every organisation uses. But compared with last year's Conspectus survey on this topic, companies are demonstrating a greater enthusiasm than ever for all kinds of web-based applications. More...
